Background
==========

Before we start, I prefer to call Brisbane Airport just that - in FS2000, selecting Brisbane Intl places you on runway 01. Brisbane Airport is comprised of two terminals - an international and a domestic.

I purchased MS Flight Simulator 2000 Professional about 10 weeks ago. Naturally, I was curious to see the airport in my home
city of Brisbane, capital of the State of Queensland, Australia which is approximately half way down the east coast of
Australia.

The airport came out of the box as an extremely bare rendition of what is a very scenic and architecturally pleasing
construction. The air traffic control tower is nicknamed the "Ice Cream Cone" for obvious reasons.

I searched the internet for some reference photos and found a grand total of one picture - an aerial photograph taken from
the north side of the airport. This single picture was enough to get started on giving the airport a facelift it deserved so
it became the main reference for plotting additional and existing structures. I gradually located charts and more
photographs.

I decided to exclude the entire site and rebuild all taxiways, roads, buildings and runways.

The tower is a feature at the airport so I decided to create it using Visual Object Designer 3.0. After some fine tuning, I
managed to replicate the Brisbane Airport ATC Tower satisfactorily (see tower.jpg - the actual tower image is courtesy of Mr David Knudsen - http://www.brisbaneairport.net).

I wanted to create a rotating beacon to place on top of the tower since it has one in real life. The best I could find was a
static, flashing beacon so it was time to analyse API code. I simply ripped the rotate calls out of a rotating radar, placed
them correctly in the static flashing beacon code and then coloured each side of the cube accordingly. I also kept the time
sensitive code so that the beacon only displays at dusk and night. Antennae were added to the top of the tower as well.
Transparent observatories add to the tower's appearance immensely.

The airport is surrounded by dense areas of trees, so naturally, some trees were added.

A large carpark is present out the front so I decided to add this.

Static objects were added in the form of pushback vehicles, together with a couple of helicopters and some Ansett and Qantas
aircraft. I plan to add some more vehicles in the future.

I created a Welcome Sign using Visual Object Designer and Paint Shop Pro for the texture. I decided to go for the
transparent lettering effect.

Some hangars were added to the maintenance area to the east of runway 01.

The final phase of the airport scenery has been adding taxi lines. I have focused on the taxi lines in the vicinity of the
domestic terminal. I plan to add more to the other areas in the future.

While I wanted to add a fair bit of detail to the Brisbane Airport site, I have attempted to optimise it so that it will run
well on most PCs. I set and staggered object view distances accordingly and endeavoured to not have any slowdown occur on
finals to any of the runways.

Anyway, thanks for downloading this airport scenery and I hope all users of this airport scenery enjoy it. I plan to keep refining and adding things to the airport as I located more and more reference material. The main focus in v1.00 is the domestic terminal (west of runway 01). I plan to enhance the international terminal and the area around runway 14 in the future. I am heading out that way soon so I will take some photographs and note locations of significant structures.

History
=======

Brisbane Domestic Airport is the newest main feature of the area which shares the land area with the international terminal,
located south of the domestic terminal. Incoming aircraft, both international and national, share runway 01 and 19 and park
at their respective terminals. Lighter aircraft use runway 14 and 32.

Maintenance areas exist on the eastern and north west side of runway 01.

I was lucky enough to see the USAF Thunderbirds perform at the opening of the domestic terminal back in 1987. They are a
site to behold. The USAF logistics, namely the transporters that accompanied them was amazing. I was lucky enough to meet and get #7's autograph (#7 was Logistics Officer Maj. B.J. Java).

The T'birds are heading back to Australia towards the end of September, 2001, to perform at an airshow at the Amberley Air
Force Base, Queensland, Australia.

A short note on my interest in aircraft - I have lived under the flight path of aircraft to and from Brisbane Airport for 26
years now. Back in 1989, I bought a radio scanner to listen to aircraft (and other) frequencies.

The most amazing thing I have seen is an outbound 747 where the pilot forgot to retract his landing gear. Some nights, we
have F-111s landing in pairs - this is a spectacular sound and site. The morning I bought FS2000 Professional, a USAF
Starlifter buzzed our house after joint US and Australian military exercises concluded.

Installation
============

Too easy - just extract the contents of this Zip file to your FS2000\Scenery directory eg. C:\games\FS2000\Scenery. I have
recursed the files so make sure that KEEP FOLDER NAMES is ticked in your desired archive program (eg. Winzip). Once
extracted, you should have a Brisbane Airport folder with 2 subdirectories being Scenery and Textures. Your directory structure should look like this:

FS2000_
|
|_Scenery_
|
|_Brisbane Airport_
|
|_Scenery
|
|_Texture

Once you have done that, just crank over FS2000 and then:

1. Click the FLY NOW! button (as if you haven't done that before ;)).

2. Then click ALT if you are using fullscreen view to access the Menu (if windowed, menu will be visible) and click WORLD.

3. Then click the SCENERY LIBRARY.

4. Click the ADD AREA button.

5. After you click the ADD AREA button, you will be automatically browsing your FS2000 root directory. Now it is time
to and then double click the SCENERY directory.

6. Now double click the BRISBANE AIRPORT directory. Once you do that, you should see the Scenery and Texture
directories.

7. Type in BRISBANE AIRPORT in the Scenery Area Title field (this is the name that will appear in your Scenery Library
Menu for easy identification for loading and unloading).

8. Click the OK button.

9. If you see BRISBANE AIRPORT at the top of the Area List, click the Green Tick. If not, repeat steps 1-8.

10. The click on WORLD again.

11. Then type BRIS in the Airport Name field.

12. You should see Brisbane Intl highlighted in the airport list - click the Green Tick.

13. You should be ready to take off on runway 01 (or the runway of your choice).

14. Frequencies are 125.5MHz (ATIS), 109.5 (Runway 01 ILS), 110.1 (Runway 19 ILS)

15. Have a safe flight ;)

Optional
========

For added realism, set your control tower co-ordinates to the following via the Map View option in game:

S27 23.30
E153 6.88
+446 feet

This will provide a true tower view.
